Effects of UV Light on Wines

Dark colored wine bottles generally have UV filters incorporated into the bottle glass but this does not guarantee that the wine is fully protected from the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays. If wine is directly exposed to light, this may cause significant alterations to the flavor of the wine and results in premature aging. Of all the wines, white wines are the most sensitive to light while reds may also be affected of exposed to light for long periods of time. So to make sure your wines are protected from the light, heat and other possible damaging factors, a custom wine cellar or wine cabinet is highly recommended. By Germano Wine Cellars
